Akwasi (1988), the stage name of Akwasi Owusu Ansah, is an artist, actor, presenter, poet and writer, but above all, he is a storyteller. There’s a reason he carries a notebook with him at all times so he can jot down inspiring moments. As a child he wrote stories and drew comics. He was discovered at fifteen when he took part in the Kunstbende competition with his entry Negerzoenen, Blanke vla en Jodenkoeken, a piece exploring discrimination. Following on from this, he made his breakthrough with the rap collective Zwart Licht, was a presenter on various television shows and released a solo album. In October, the spoken word artist will be releasing his first written work. Laten we het er maar niet over hebben (Let’s Not Talk About It) is a collection in which Akwasi addresses a range of barriers in the way we communicate. He will be sharing a preview of his new book at the ILFU Book Parade.
