Arjen van Veelen (1980) writes essays, travel stories and reports for many publications, including NRC Handelsblad and De Correspondent. After two essay collections, Van Veelen published the essayistic novel Aantekeningen voor het verplaatsen van obelisken (Notes on Installing Obelisks), which was shortlisted for the Libris Prize. He also won the Homerus Prize and the audience prize of the BNG Literature Prize. Amerikanen lopen niet (Americans don’t walk) was published in 2018, based on the years he lived in St. Louis, Missouri.
