“I have always had a fondness for fairy tales, Greek myths and sagas, even the Old Testament.”
Delphine Lecompte (1978) allows the darker sides of these tales to emerge in her work. The Flemish poet made her début in 2004 with an English novel and then switched to poems in her mother tongue. Her first poetry collection, De dieren in mij (The Animals in Me) was immediately awarded the C. Buddingh’ prize. More collections followed and Lecomptes’ most recent collection Western, full of excitement and adventure, was published in 2017. Her collected work Best of Delphine will hit shelves in November 2018.
