Hanneke van der Heijden
Hanneke van der Heijden (1964) has translated work by many authors, including Orhan Pamuk, Elif Shafak, Oguz Atay and Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar. She has sometimes worked with Margreet Dorleijn on these translations and the duo have compiled the anthology Moderne Turkse verhalen (Modern Turkish Stories). In 2008 Van der Heijden and Dorleijn received the translator prize from the Dutch Foundation for Literature. She is involved in many things outside of translation. She writes about Turkish literature, gives lectures and leads literary walking tours in Istanbul. Her website literatuuruitturkije.nl features her latest translations, articles about translation and news about literary Turkey. Hanneke van der Heijden has put together the collection Wie Wij Zijn: een literaire kennismaking met Turkije (Who We Are: A Literary Introduction to Turkey) for the ILFU. She will be presenting the collection at the ILFU Book Parade on Sunday 16 September.
