Henk van Straten (1980) wrote his first texts for his hardcore punk band when he was in high school. However, the real writing only began when he left the band in 2004. Since then he has written various novels and articles for Trouw, Elle and De Correspondent. He has been nominated for the BNG Literature Prize three times to date and was longlisted for the Libris Literature Prize. 2017’s autobiographical Wij zeggen hier niet halfbroer (We Don’t Use the Term Half-Brother), published by Nijgh & van Ditmar, has been nominated for the prize for Best Book for Young People 2018, which will be awarded during the ILFU.
“This is a beautiful, genuine, poignant book about people, it is painfully honest and also witty.” (Sylvia Witteman in de Volkskrant)
