Jolle Demmers (1969) studied Political Science and International Relations in Amsterdam and then carried out her PhD research. She is co-founder of the Centre for Conflict Studies and author of the recently revised Theories of Violent Conflict; an introduction. Demmers is currently the Associate Professor at the University of Utrecht in Conflict Studies and she is part of The Intimacies of Remote Warfare research group. This research group is engaged in researching the latest warfare strategies that are possible with the current development of remote control technologies. She will be presenting a mini-lecture about the presentation of villains/victims in present-day wars, focussing on the dark sides of the new and invisible shapes of modern Western warfare.
