Joost de Vries
Joost de Vries (1983) studied journalism and history and has been writing pieces about art and literature for De Groene Amsterdammer since 2005. De Vries writes about irony in the age of Facebook, cultural pretension in times of populism and national mourning in the time of Frans Timmermans. He also occasionally writes for Das Magazin and nrc.next and published his debut novel Clausewitz (Prometheus) in 2010, for which he was awarded the C.C.S. Crone Grant from the city of Utrecht. He has since written three novels and an essay collection, which have won many major prizes. At the ILFU novel evening, De Vries will be moderating the discussion panels about the topics of feminism and racism in novels.
