Sandeep Mahal is the director of the Nottingham City of Literature, a city in the centre of England with around 300,000 residents that was awarded the Unesco title in 2015. During the City of Literature symposium, Sandeep will be discussing what the recognition has done for the city so far. She is also the chair of the City of Literature network for 2018-2020, the overarching organisation that is responsible for communications with Unesco and the international collaborations between the 28 cities. Sandeep began her career as a librarian, then established partnerships between publishing houses and libraries and also worked for the BBC. She has been the director of Nottingham City of Literature since 2015. Sandeep enjoys reading Edna O’Brien, Zadie Smith and Neil Gaiman.
