Willem Thies (1973) is often described as a dark romantic. He was the co-founder of the literary punk rock journal Zeroxat and editor and writer for the young person’s magazine Simpel. Thies released his first collection of poetry in 2006 called Toendra and received the C.Buddingh’ prize for the best poetry debut in the same year. Whereas the focus in Toendra was death, his poems these days are slightly more positive, although Thies isn’t afraid of dark edges. His fifth collection will be published in September: Na het paringsritueel (After the Mating Ritual). According to the Podium publishing house, Thies’ poetry has “never before been […] so adventurous, exuberant and daring…”.
