The exhibition Lev over het leven; over het leven van Lev, a journey through the life and times of Leo Tolstoy (1828 – 1910), opens in the Central Library during the ILFU. Visitors will glimpse the author of masterpieces such as War and Peace and Anna Karenina, but also get to see Tolstoy as a spiritual guru and anti-authoritarian thinker. The exhibition takes place from 15 September to 31 October in the Central Library in Utrecht. Entry is free during the library’s opening times.

As a visitor, you will get to know Tolstoy personally thanks to visual material and film fragments. In addition, you will receive a unique look into the life of Tolstoy and his family with a special focus on his wife, the author Sophia Tolstoy. You will learn more about his philosophy and ideas and how they are still relevant today in social debates about education, religion and feminism. The exhibition ends by showing the connection Tolstoy had to the Netherlands.

Visit the Central Library and step into the 19th century world of Leo Tolstoy.
