The ILFU kicks off with a five-hour book parade at the Utrecht Uitfeest in TivoliVredenburg’s Great Hall. In a marathon session, authors will present their new books in talks and brief interviews. The afternoon is free of charge and you can drop in and out whenever you want.
For anyone who wants to know what to read after the summer is over, we will be guiding you through what’s on offer this autumn: Anna Enquist will be speaking about her novel Want de avond and Marente de Moor will be presenting a new novel set in the Russian forests. Cabaret artist Tim Fransen will give a taster of his first book, singer Daniël Samkalden will be talking about his debut novel and rapper Akwasi will be performing from his new collection. We also welcome Peter Zantingh, who will be speaking about his most recent publication, as will Kerim Göçmen. Joke van Leeuwen will be on the stage with her novel Hier, and the American author Brad Watson is present. Last but not least there will be interviews with writers Hans Boland and Georgina Verbaan. There will be non-fiction too: after years of writing, Mirjam van Hengel has finished her biography about Remco Campert, and Frank Westerman’s new book about the discovery of a fossilised prehistoric man that inspired him to go on a philosophical journey will be published in autumn. Following our theme of Turkey, translator and Turkey-specialist Hanneke van der Heijden joins the book parade.
Besides listening to all these amazing writers, you can listen to music too. Nora Fischer, broeder Dieleman and Asfaltfeeën, Ingmar Heytze‘s band, are bringing will be present in TivoliVredenburg. Drop in during the Uitfeest for your dose of new literature and buy the books straight away at the Utrecht Book Market, which will be going on in Vredenburg Square all day.
We will be announcing the programme of when the writers and artists will be performing on this website and on the Utrecht Uitfeest website at the start of September.
